Sensible Managers - A Dream Come True.!?!

Management "Gurus" always have so many things to tell to their cattle-class employee shishyas.. Why is it never the other way round.. After all, we, the shishyas, are so confident that our gurus are always open to learning..

From our end, here are someways to help yourself become popular.. for the good reasons..

Five and half senses, is all what it takes to be a good manager..

See, what is happening.. Sometimes its also good to move the lazy-back out of the cabin and walk around, and see whats happening.. And get an idea of what it takes to sit in the place where the actual work happens..

Smell, What the heck is cooking.. Its definitely important to know what in the mind of the employees.. Any workplace, something must be happening all the time.. Find out what that is.. Indulge..

Hear, whats the talk of the office.. Replace the coffee vending machine if it sucks.. If there is an affair between the sales executive and the receptionist, enjoy the talk.. Dont have to be the best man at their wedding.. :P

Feel, Whats the atmosphere like.. Does the employee feel good about coming to work? Or is he hiding behind in the garage and calling in sick cos he is afraid of a one-to-one meeting with you.. Or is he in office just because you have ordered him that he can't be sick?

Taste, the bitter butter.. Hide the stopwatch.. Close the cash-box.. Wear the thinking hat that says employee on it.. Do what they do and see what it is like to be someone who does things under a manager like you.. And be honest about it..

Think (by 2)- Can't be that difficult, can it? Not for the Gurus.. Apparently, it is.. Think out of the box.. I mean the cash box.. There are things that are a lil more important than ur stopwatch and bank balance.. We, shishyas, call it peace of mind.. Here is a simple example.. When you try to fill a bottle with water from a pot, its always better to use a cup.. use the cup to fetch the water from the pot.. Pour the water gently into the bottle.. Funnel is a luxury.. Thats how it is meant to be done.. And thats how we would like to do it.. But it cannot happen when there is a 10 headed monster, standing next to you, holding an axe in one hand and a stop watch in the other..

Last but not the least.. As an employee, one gets time (and permission) to think, only in weekends.. And the poor fellow is not trained to think anything beyond work.. Make sure you dont spoil his mood on a friday.. And dont give a low-blow on a monday morning, when his confidence level is at its vulnerable-best..

DISCLAIMER: I, Badri Krishnan, sitting on my chair (ensuring my reed ki haddi is well in place), consider this piece of writing as pure-fiction.. This has nothing to do with my current, past or future employers.. And I don't have any complaints about the coffee vending machines in my company.. ;)
